Following a recommendation, I started with the black communities. Lynn Flewelling wrote a good 10 years on the trilogy and in my opinion, it has also paid off.
The light in the shade. The Shadow Guild 01
I liked this very good start. It is very fast from the narrative and the story tied up. It is a classic fantasy story, like the East Ard story by Tad Williams. This is called a cloak and dagger story. This kind of fantasy and I like the light in the shadows, you can count on a very good representative of this fantasy direction. The
Characters of Alec and Seregil in the course of the story ever closer and it will provide even more, even slight hints that these two will be pretty close. It seems to run out, it will probably be a love affair between the two. There are hints such as: Seregil Alec looked behind him with a wistful look. I'm not sure whether homosexuality belongs in a fantasy novel, but why not? It is certainly something refreshingly different.
Furthermore I also like very much that there are no major battles in this book, there are only a few minor skirmishes and the book as a whole is not designed for action. The body swap between Seregil and a servant was a very refreshing idea how to use magic. Magic also plays a very important role in this trilogy.
All in all, the prelude to the trilogy I liked very much, except for a few lengths and one or two boring chapters, this book is recommended strongly.
